Riley sat at her desk. It was early enough in the morning that no students had wandered in, she probably still had a good hour to work on the stack of quizzes in front of her before the more over eager kids started turning up. She sat with her head resting on her hand, her long brown hair falling in front of her face, her eyes seeming to look through the stack of papers in front of her. A small smile played along her lips as she tapped a pen absentmindedly on the desk.
Her mind was a million miles away. Stuck somewhere in a dimly lit restaurant with an incredibly sexy music teacher. She gave her head a little shake. This wasn't like her. She wasn't normally prone to extended daydreams. And yet, here she was, still no further with her grading because she was too busy thinking about Gage. She wasn't sure of this was a good idea. One date, and she was utterly distracted at work. She reached for her coffee mug, taking a gulp of the already cold liquid. The smile refused to leave her face. She really couldn't help herself though, those eyes, that smile, those lips... how could she not be distracted? She thought, her mind drifting again.

Gage didn't have a first period class. He usually slept in during that time. But not today. Today he was on his way to see Riley. He'd gone out with her on a date already and he thought it went great. He'd gotten her flowers .. curtisy of the garden out front. But to him it was the gesture that counted. And the rest of the night was great. Good food and a pretty lady to share conversation with. He thought life was perfect right now. He hadn't felt this way about a girl in a long time. Not since Ryans mom. And he was sure Ryan would love Riley when they met.
When he got to her room he stopped and watched her silently for a few moments while she graded her papers. A smile settled on his lips while he watched. Then he moved into the room quietly. Once he was in front of her desk he cleared his throat. "Special delivery for one Ms.Cox." His smile grew. In one hand he held flowers, and not from the flower bed out front this time. There were three red roses, and in his other hand he had a red apple. It was symbolic for teachers to have an apple on their desks. And if she got hungry later she could eat it.

Riley looked up, startled. She'd been so lost in her own head, she hadn't even heard someone come into her class. When her eyes fell on Gage, smiling in front of her and holding out roses and an apple, her face split into a wide smile. He brought her flowers? Real ones this time. Not that she hadn't loved the ones he'd picked for her the other night, they were still sitting in a glass on her bedside table. But this was a little different, he'd actually had to go out and get them. As for the apple, well that was just cute. And would probably come in handy when her blood sugar dropped around 10.
She pushed her hair behind her ears before reaching out and taking them from his hands. “Thank you. This is an excellent start to the morning” she said brightly, holding the roses to her nose and inhaling deeply. It had been ages since anyone got her roses, and she forgot how much she enjoyed the sweet scent. She searched around her desk, looking for something she could put them in. The closest thing she had to a vase was a pen holder. Dumping the contents out rather unceremoniously, she filled the small container with water from a bottle before putting the roses in it. “They really are lovely”

Gage smiled at how much she seemed to like the flowers. And the apple. Really he wasn't exactly sure why he'd gotten the apple for her. He just had. Just because they were teachers for kids who weren't up to societies parr didn't mean she shouldn't be like every other teacher and have an apple on her desk as well. He watched as she dumped out her pen holder and poured some water in it for the flowers, then putting the flowers in. She liked them which is what he was hoping for.
He liked her a lot and he wanted to show her he did. "I'm glad you like them .. I just wanted to give you something to say I've done nothing but think of you since our date. And that I had a lot of fun with you. And that maybe .. you'd consider doing it again" He wasn't sure what was more nerve wrecking. Asking for the first date .. or the date that followed. Because by the second date the girl usually knows for sure whether going out again or not is what she wants. Maybe there was something you did on the first date she found repulsing. Who knows, but he hoped she had as much fun as he had.

Riley smiled, lowering her head, letting her hair fall in front of her face to hide the light blush that spread across her cheeks when he said he’d been thinking about her. It was good to know that she wasn’t the only one. It would have been a shame if she’d been sitting with her head in the clouds if he wasn’t at least kind of on the same page. She was also relieved to hear that he’d enjoyed himself. She’d had a wonderful time. They’d spent a large part of the evening just talking and laughing, and she’d loved it. There was something to be said about the all important first date, and getting to know someone in that context.
Riley was pretty certain you could figure out if it was worth pursuing anything further based on that one all important date. Not that she’d had all that many first dates, but she’d known when Charles had dropped her off at her dorm that first time that they were going to be together for awhile. And she’d known the other night as well, her and Gage could work. She wanted them to work. She wasn’t going to go ahead and get carried away again, no she wasn’t envisioning herself as Mrs. Peirce, but she could certainly see them spending more time together. Her lips curved into a smile, yes, she certainly could see many more dates on the horizon. Providing he wanted them that is.
Her head raised back up when he continued on, and there it was. He asked her out again. Her smile widened, and she looked every bit as eager as she felt, not thinking that she perhaps would be seen as little desperate. Cosmo magazine would be ashamed of her. But she didn’t care. Riley couldn’t play coy, she never could. She was excited he wanted a second date, and she let it show. “I would definitely consider doing it again.” she nodded.

Gage's smile grew when she said she would consider it. That must have meant the date wasn't a total failure. By the way she looked it wasn't any where near a failure at all. That made him happy. He really liked Riley a lot. She was smart and funny and so upbeat. She was a lot like him. And she didn't mind him being who he was. Or how much he rambled on and on about his son. Which usually seemed like a lot. She always listened to what he said. She didn't pretend to listen, she actually did.
He leaned forward putting his hands on her desk to brace himself. His eyes looked into hers. "So does that mean yes?" The smile on his face grew just looking at her. But thinking that she would actually be saying yes made him so happy. Happy enough to dance right now. He moved around to the other side of her desk and held out his hands for her to take. This by far had been the best choice he made, teaching at bad. He got to help kids and he found a woman he really liked.

Riley bit her lip when he leaned forward towards her on the desk. Man, she just wanted to kiss him when he did that. And his gorgeous lips were so close. But of course she couldn't. It would be entirely unprofessional. Not to mention awkward if a student decided to be over eager and came into class early. It was an easy choice to make. Should she, or shouldn't she go out again with one of the nicest men she'd ever met? Instead, she just nodded her head “Yes. That was definitely a yes.” She said with a smile.
She laughed lightly and raised an eyebrow when he offered her his hand. It was a little out of the ordinary to be sure, and she had no clue what he was up too, but with a smile, she reached out and took his hand anyways, getting to her feet. She looked into his eyes, her face split into a grin. He was special, she still had so much she needed to learn about him, all things considered, she didn't know him that well, but everything he did just made her want to smile.

Gage smiled when she finally go to her feet. It was definitely a yes. He liked the idea of going on dates regularly with her. She was so sweet, and she deserved a guy who would treat her right. And he was hoping she would see him as that guy. Maybe one day probably a long time from now he'd be able to go home to her every night. He liked that they had things in common. They're personalities were similiar. They shared the love for teaching. Even for teaching the same way.
He pulled her closer to him so that now their bodies were touching. Something the guitar had prevented the other day. Then he let his lips touch hers again. He really loved kissing her. And he loved feeling her close to him. Was it weird for him to feel love for her this early? He wouldn't say it, that would freak her out and probably him too. But he felt it. He hoped the things he's done showed how much he cared about her.

Riley's heart immediately sped up as he pulled her against his body. She felt like she fit perfectly against him, that this was the most natural place for her to be, and fleetingly thought that she could very well be happy being held by him every minute of everyday. She looked up to his face as he brought his lips to hers. Her previous thoughts about not kissing him in class were wiped from her mind. Her hands looped up over his shoulders as she pulled herself tighter against his chest.
She happily forgot where she was, and what she was supposed to be doing. Gage had the ability to do that to her, just totally sweep her away and distract her from what she was doing. Hell, he'd managed to do it when he hadn't even been in the room. With his arms holding her and his lips kissing her, she was a lost cause. For the time being, this was all that really mattered. He was pretty special. A different kind of man. And she was in danger of falling for him. It was too quick, that was unarguable, but she didn't think it was beyond the realm of possibility. In fact, it was probable.

Gage kissed her for a few more moments then gently pulled away. He liked more things about her then just the way it felt when they kissed. Though that was certainly a plus. He liked looking at her and hearing her speak, her views on things, quite similar to his so far, it was refreshing to have met someone who was sort of like him but yet different. It was hard to explain he supposed. But that didn't stop him from trying to explain it to himself when he thought about her.
Even though they weren't kissing anymore he still kept her close to him. It was probably inappropriate to be doing so especially if a student were to walk in and see them. But who said teachers weren't allowed to have lives. Lives that involved more then what they were going to teach in their next class and so on. But to have romantic lives too. He smiled some, his eyes moved to the board next to them. There was some writing on it. Not that he really understood the stuff on there but he was sure if he asked, she would tell him. "So what are you teaching on today?" He didn't mind history. It was his second or maybe third favorite subject. But it was quickly becoming his second for sure.

Riley smiled when he didn’t immediately let her go. She could easily get used to being held in his arms. It was comforting, and not for the first time, she reflected that it somehow just felt right. She rested her head against his chest, hearing his heat beat through his shirt, and let her eyes close for a moment, completely relaxed. She no longer cared that it wasn’t strictly professional, it made her happy, and frankly, who cared about anything else? It’s not like she’d be fired for canoodling with the music teacher, just more likely to gross out some students. She could live with that. It was more than worth it, to get to spend any time with this man, who’d so easily wormed his way into her head and likely her heart.
She opened her eyes when he spoke, following his gaze to the board and the notes and doodles she’d scrawled out on it. She smiled a little “It’s American History first block this morning. These lucky kids get to hear all about the war of 1812 today.” she let out a small chuckle “ I’m hoping the little known story about drunk Canadian’s burning down the White House will keep them entertained. Hence the bad drawing” she grinned at her attempt at an artistic rendering of the event, which consisted mainly of stick figures covered in maple leafs and a burning house.

Gage liked how she felt in his arms. She was calm and relaxed, and she fit like she belonged there. Maybe that was her way of saying I'm happy here. At least that's how Gage chose he was gonna see it. He had his mind made up that this was going to laugh for pretty much ever now. That was probably going to far but it was his mind and no one else's so he would do what he wanted in there.
He listened to her explain what she was teaching. A small childish smile appeared on his face while she explained her drawing. She was quickly becoming his soul mate more and more everytime she talked. He liked her stick figures. They were cute. His childish smile grew some as he got an idea. He let her go and moved towards the board and picked up a piece of chalk. Then he moved to her drawing and added some stick people jumping from the burning building with little flames on them. He let out a small laugh. "Sadly I think the kids would enjoy that part too" His drawing skills were about the same as hers.

Riley resisted the urge to pout when he moved away from her. It was only a moment, and she was sure there would be plenty more opportunities for him to hold her. Well, if she had any say in the matter at least. She quirked an eyebrow up inquisitively when he grabbed some chalk and started to add onto the board. The smile on her lips quickly melted into a laugh when she saw his addition of more crudely drawn men jumping from the fire. She turned her smile to him, shaking her head and chuckling “Oh it’s no doubt they’ll love that”
She tilted her head to the side, looking at him, her light eyes meeting his. She wondered if he knew how much that had endeared him to her. How many people would have taken a look at the board, raised an eyebrow, and made some sarcastic comment about her attempt to liven up an dry lesson. He hadn’t. Gage understood. She smiled, really thankful for the first time for the events that had lead her to this school. As hard as they may have been, it brought her here, where she’d met him, and in a few days she already felt more sure of him than she really ever had with Charles. Gage was cut from the same cloth as her. He just got it. She grinned a little, snapping herself out of her thoughts. “ I have to say though, don’t quit your day job doing music, your art career is going nowhere.” she teased.[/andalus]

Gage smiled at Riley when she laughed some at his drawing. At least they agreed the kids would like that part of the drawing. He moved behind her and put his arms around her from behind. He let his chin rest on her shoulder while he looked at the board. Anything to help lighten up a lesson was good. Even if it was a horrible drawing. But really it wasn't horrible. Not to him. Because most of it came from Riley, and her heart was always in what she was teaching them.
Then she was cracking in his art skills and he squeezed her some letting out a small laugh. "My art skills? ... How do you know I wasn't drawing like that to match the rest of your drawing?" He laughed a little more. Really he couldn't draw any better then her. "I can't wait to see how well you draw instruments" He smiled and kissed her cheek still holding her the way he had been since moving from the board.

Riley smiled as he put his arms around her and she felt his chin resting on her shoulder and his chest against her back. She turned her head slightly to look at him, relaxing in his arms. A happy grin spread across her face “ Hey! I’ll have you know, my stick figures are fine works of art.” she joked. “ As for instruments, I don’t think my skills extend that far.”
A little reluctantly, she stepped away from him, going to the board and picking up a piece of chalk. She drew what appeared to be a bean with a stick coming out one end. Tilting her head to the side, she looked at it, her lips pursed slightly. She went back to her doodle, drawing a smiling stick figure behind it. There, now it managed to look more like a guitar, or at least that’s what she would tell herself.
