Olivia was a woman normally obsessed with how she looked. You would rarely find her looking anything less than impeccable. It was in part due to her youth and the years in the pageant circuit, and in part due to the Texan in her. No self respecting Texan woman would be seen without her hair and makeup done after all. As she emerged from the library on her first day on the job at Blackwood’s, she looked anything but impeccable though. Her blonde hair had been tied hastily into a pony tail, and strands were falling out all over the place. She has a smear of unidentified dirt across her cheek, her clothes were wrinkled, a nylon torn and she felt like she was covered with an inch thick layer of dust. It was however one of the few times she didn’t care all that much. As odd as it had seemed to her family and friends, the woman loved what she did, and while the state of the school’s library was despicable, she’d made good headway on getting it sorted out. It was a job well done in her mind. She glanced down at her watch, surprised at how many hours had passed since she first set to work. Her stomach let out a low grumble, and she hastily pressed her hand to it. Yes, well past time for lunch.
Not trusting what would be served in the cafeteria, she’d packed a lunch for herself, and with the brown bag clutched in her hands, left to find a bit of a respite from the musty books. She settled on the steps at the front of the school. She pulled her cardigan tighter around her body, while not freezing outside, it was still a little chilly, but as she smoother her skirt, she decided the fresh air made the nip in the air worthwhile. She pulled the Diet Coke from her bag, cracking it open and taking a sip, her bright blue eyes taking in the grounds. Her head turned to look at the doors as she heard them open behind her. The first thing she saw was a battered red chuck poking through. No, no, no! Not now! This was not how I was supposed to look when this happened! She thought furiously at herself as she turned her head back out to the grounds. She tucked one of the fallen strands of hair back behind her ear, and smoothed her skirt again. She lifted her pop to her mouth, taking another sip, getting herself to at least look nonchalant, even if she was cursing herself for not being prepared for the moment.
