I grew up with two very annoying brothers who stayed in a juvenile detention. I used to think they were the worst of the worst, but then I realized, there was nothing wrong with them, they just needed someone to be patient with them. And I know that these kids need the same thing. I know I'm not a therapist, far from it really, but I know that each and every one of these kids have a chance at getting better and I want to be there to help. I think I have more patience than anyone, excuse me if it sounds cocky, but a librarian spends her time putting thousands of books away and cataloging, tell me that doesn't take patience.
I've been a librarian for five years and I absolutely love it. As a child I've always loved books. By the time I was in the sixth grade I was reading on a twelfth grade level. I spent a lot of time in the libraries and volunteering at the public library. I'm a real bookworm and what better way to read than work as a librarian. Referring kids to books that match them, helping them with the computers, just being there. Librarians are like these big brainy helpers and I love it.
I can offer Blackwood academy someone who will care for the kids. I will make sure that their needs are cared for while their in the library. I feel as though I'm patient, intelligent, and can be someone to just talk to when you're down or having troubles. I can also help with homework. I know plenty of websites and books and I took a class on tutoring when it comes to English and Language Arts.
I think I present myself as a fairly decent person. I like to look professional, as well as have a professional attitude, whether it be in front of adults, be it my boss and coworkers, or the students. Being friendly is also a key point to me. I don't just through myself out there, I prefer the casual approach of, 'Hello, how are you,' and introduce myself. And I listen, talking's not one of my strong points. I think that if you just listen to a person you can learn a lot about them. Being a Librarian means I'm used to being quiet, and of course telling people to be quiet. Regardless I try and come off as someone who the students know will respect them, no matter why they're there.
“Have you ever had any problems with the law? Why did you quit your last job?”
No, I've never had problems with the law. I heard about the position here at Blackwood Academy and thought, why not go see if I can get the job. It's not that I didn't like working at the public library, but it was kind of noisy. I prefer a quiet place where I can work in peace. I know not many people come to the school libraries, but for those who do come, I think I can help them. Find out their interest and get them a book. It helps pass the time you know.
