Alex’s mom had dropped her off at Blackwood Academy a few hours ago. She had on her favorite outfit. A black Columbia tee, with a dark red zip up hoodie, black and red athletic pants that had snaps all the way down the sides, and black and white sneakers. Her hair was pulled up into a messy bun and a few loose strands hung down around her face. She spent most of her time just walking around and getting a feel for the place. She had pictured it as being a tightly locked down facility. Even though, she was not at all happy about being forced to come here, she had to admit, it had a major upside for her. She had months before she had to see her parents again. Months! That thought made her so happy she couldn’t help the small smile that appeared on her face. It would be so nice getting away from all their shit for a while. She wouldn’t have to hear about how she had fucked up, how it was her fault Kendra was taken from them, or what she had done to piss them off now. Now all she had to figure out was how she was going to get her fix of heroin and vodka in this place.
Alex hadn’t eaten since breakfast earlier that day so she decided to make her way to the cafeteria.. When she walked into the cafeteria, she felt the warmth hit her and she set her red and black Columbia backpack on the floor while she tied her hoodie around her waist. She hoisted her backpack up onto one shoulder and got in line for food. The pasta looked to be the safest bet so she chose that with a carton of skim milk and an apple.
She turned around and scoped out the place, she wanted to pick a good place to sit.. Alex frowned, she was not in the mood to be bombarded with a trillion F*cking questions, she did not want to have to deal with the nerds or girly-girls. Alex was a tomboy and didn’t want to listen to those assholes gripe about her clothes. She figured that if she sat with them, she probably would end up punching one of them in their F*cking face. Alex wanted to try her hardest not to get in trouble after only being her for a few hours. Finally, she spotted an empty table way in the back right corner.
She looked straight ahead, as she walked confidently over to the table. She half set/half dropped her tray on the table. Alex dropped her backpack on the floor and it landed with a loud thunk, pulled out the chair and plopped down into it. She was happy for once she didn’t have to hear her mom’s F*cking commentary about her posture and how she sat like a guy, not a young lady. She grabbed the apple, bit into it and chewed loudly as she looked around the room.

Anthony hadn't been in an especially talkative mood for the last couple days. Not that he didn't love Pixel or the child they would be having not to long from now but the news of the baby had him wound so tight he was just miserable. He had a feeling Pixel sorta felt the same way. Maybe not for the same reasons. Anthony was doubting his abilities as a parent. And whether or not he could be the man the kid is going to need in its life.
Which brought him to the cafeteria. Dinner time. There were a few people he knew and could probably sit with there but again he wasn't much in the talking mood. As his dark blue eyes scanned around the room he found no empty seats. But one in the back with only one girl sitting at it. He didn't know her it was perfect. He got his trey of food and moved to the table quietly sitting down.

Alex set the apple down and sat there staring off into space, lost in her own thoughts. She couldn’t help but think of everything that lead to her being sent here. If only her F*cking Father had been able to keep it in his pants, maybe none of this wouldn’t have happened. Maybe her parental units wouldn’t have had a bitter divorce. Which possibly, would have kept Alex and Kendra from starting to drink, if that hadn’t happened, would Kendra still be here? Would they still be the happy family they once were?
Alex sigh land stared at the lasagna, poking at it with her fork. She still was not convinced it was entirely eatable. She was pulled out of her thoughts when suddenly she heard someone join her at the table. She looked up startled. Not sure who or what to expect. Who would sit with her? She hadn’t really met anyone yet, so its not like she even had an acquaintance. She looked at the guy and decided to try to be nice. Maybe he could give her a heads up on where she could score something around her. She really needed some heroin and alcohol. She hated being sober. She gave him a small nod and said, “Hey.”

Anthony picked up the fork with his right hand. He had quit trying to use it like a normal person. Being left handed everything was harder when he was in a cast. So he used his fork like a shovel. He kept his head down staring at his trey while he ate. He wanted to spend some time with Pixel later of tonight. Maybe study or 'study' He smiled a little as a picture popped into his head with that last thought.
When he heard the girl who was sitting a few seats over and on the other side of the table he moved his dark blue eyes to look at her. He didn't know who she was but she should know he was a level three and considered dangerous around here. He could have been a level four. But he hadn't gotten to shoot the cop in front of him before the other cop showed up. He just silently looked a her for a few moments. "Hey" He returned her words. Then he looked back down at his trey.

Alex was annoyed when all he did was repeat her words and then continue to eat. If he didn’t want company, then why had he chosen to sit with her?! She hadn’t asked for him to join her! Hell, she didn’t know who he was or anything about him at all. She took some deep breaths, as she tried to keep her temper in check. She was trying her hardest to be nice and not snip at him. She didn’t want to be enemies with every student in this place. That would make the next few years that she had to spend here really lonely.
She sighed and looked down at her tray. She poked at her lasagna separating it into bite sized pieces as she thought about eating it. She slowly shoveled a bite into her mouth. It wasn’t that bad. Sure she’d had much better, but she’d also had much worse. It was eatable, and that’s all that really mattered to her. She ate another bite as she contemplated what to say to the guy. She wanted to get to know him. Alex swallowed, cleared her throat, and looked up at him again. “I’m Alex,” she told him.

Anthony continued to eat, he was sure he looked like an unmannered pig. But he was hungry and tired of messing with learning how to use the fork properly with his right hand. He knew he'd be getting his pain pill soon. The nurse gave him four a day. He was used to so much more then that. Really the pill didn't do much for him but it did lessen the pain a little. His fingers ached more then where the actual break in the bone was. He did look forward to the pill a little. Deep down Anthony was a druggie at heart. He breathed in and then out again.
Then he heard the girl speak again. His eyes moved back to her. His chewing slowed as he thought about why she would be talking to him. He was pretty sure he didn't exactly look very inviting. Actually he'd wished Pixel had decided to eat dinner at the same time as him. But it had looked like he missed her. Maybe they would meet up later. But this girl, she was introducing herself to him. "I'm Anthony" He really wasn't the talkative type, especially to people he really had never seen before like this girl.

Alex heard the guy say his name was Anthony. Well, that was a start, she thought. At least she could put a name to his face now. And officially say she knew one person here so far, even if all she really knew about him was his name.
Alex stabbed another forkful of lasagna and ate it. She set down her fork and picked up the wimpy piece of garlic bread she had gotten. She took a bite of it. it again, wasn’t horrible. It reminded her of Kendra though. She had liked cooking, and was really good at it. When they had to go to their Father’s house, and he was at work like always, Kendra would cook them dinner. Kendra would make spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic bread with cheese and a mix of herbs; while Alex tossed together a salad, and all the while Kendra would tease her about her lack of cooking skills. Alex missed her sister so much.
She came out of her thoughts and set her garlic bread down. She took her napkin and wiped her hands and mouth, before she took a sip of her milk. She glanced at Anthony. She didn’t want to push him, but she also wanted to know someone here. She took a breath and decided to start small. “So…Anthony…umm how long have you been here?” she asked.

Anthony still wasn't sure what about him said conversation buddy. He'd been a mood most of the day. He thought it was cause Pixel and him hadn't seen each other for the whole day, and to be frank S*x was lacking cause both of them were doing poorly in their classes. He was going to find her later and try to fix that. But that still left conversation with this girl. He didn't want to be mean. Deep down he wasn't a mean person. He wasn't much of a talker but he was still nice.
He lifted his eyes to her once more when she spoke. How long had he been here. He wasn't even sure now. The days all ran together and he wasn't completely sure what month he'd gotten here. He was high as a kite, he barely knew his own name. Then he met Pixel and didn't care what month it was or what day it was. Just that he got to see Pixel. "I'm not exactly sure. After a while it feels like the days and months run together. Don't even know what month I got here. You?" He had made and attempt to be nice.

She looked at him as he spoke. She wished she didn’t know what day she got here. If she had been able to use the heroin she bought before being arrested, maybe she would have had that luxury. Unfortunately, she hadn’t been that lucky. She’d gotten drunk earlier that day, but that had long worn off by now. She needed a fix and soon.
“I got here a few hours ago,” She told Anthony. She paused, and glanced around to be sure no teachers or staff were close enough to hear them. When she was sure the coast was clear she leaned in and continued. “So… how do you score some shit around here? Heroin and vodka are my drugs of choice, but I’m flexible,” she said quietly , she did not want to be overheard. At this point, she would take anything she could get. She really hoped he could hook her up with something.

Anthony's dark blue eyes looked over at her when she spoke. When it registered what it was she was asking for he let out a small laugh. Like you could get anything like that around here. They were pretty tight and strict on the stuff you can have here. It was just like being in the prison. Minus having cigarettes. At least in prison you could smoke. He ate a few more bites while carefully forming the words he wanted to say in his head.
"You won't find anything like that around here. You're pretty much lucky if a teacher offers you a smoke. Cause that's all you'll get around here. And that means the teacher likes you .. if you get one don't ruin the relationship you might have with that teacher .. cause they might give ya another." That was his best advice to her. And the truth as well. Find a teacher who would give you a smoke .. make good with that teacher. Thats how people like Alex and him would get by without being high. Though he had something else to relieve the stress of not being high, Pixel. That thought made him smile a little.
