“Why did you decide to go into teaching?”
I was a bit of a troubled teen myself, you see. I had an issue with taking stuff that didn’t belong to me. A mentor of mine eventually got me settled down and that led me to eventually run my grandfather’s school. Really though it was my younger brother that really got me into teaching, I was tutoring him and I realized that I liked helping kids, I enjoyed teaching so I went to college as soon as I could and then once my father thought I was responsible enough I took over at the Blackwood Academy.
“What can you offer the school?”
I can offer funding and the school grounds. I think I can offer a firm hand. I believe I can offer the school all my devotion, strength and resources.
“Why do you want to work with troubled youth?”
Like I said above I was a troubled teen back in the day. I stole and got drunk and just generally made a nuisance of myself. One day my favorite teacher sat me down and told me that I was going to end up in jail, he even took me there, to jail, to show me what it was like. After I got my head on straight I realized that I could do more by helping people then I could drinking myself to death or wasting away in prison. When I started teaching I knew right away that I wanted to work with troubled kids because I knew where they were coming from and I could relate.
“How long have you been teaching, what subjects have you taught, where was the last place you taught?”
I’ve been teaching five years not counting student teaching. I’ve taught all sorts of history classes, world history, and American history stuff like that. The last place I taught was B.A.D. actually I taught World History. I am certified to teach math and English but I really don’t want too so I don’t of course being the Headmaster now, I don’t teach much of anything anymore.
“How do you project yourself to students? How do you think your co-workers will see you? How do you see you?”
I think I come off as a spoiled rich boy to be honest. I’m tall with brown hair that I try to keep slicked back. I wear suits and I just try to look like my father. I think my co-workers see me as my father’s son. The man they didn’t want to talk too because they might say something that would get them fired. Or at least the older staff, I hope the newer staff thinks I just a regular guy. I see my self as a man trying to get of his father’s shadow. I see a normal man, with brown hair and brown eyes just trying to stand out in the world.
“Worse decision you’ve made during your teaching career.”
My worse decision I’ve made during my teaching career? Getting a degree that tells me I can teach math. Everyone wants me to teach math, I hate math and would much rather teach history. I’ve turned down jobs because I didn’t want to teach math before. Or when I decided to wear a suit now it’s just expected of me because I wore it the first day.
“Tell me a little about your life before B.A.D.”
I never really had a life outside of B.A.D. I grew up here with my Dad was a teacher here, and my grandfather was the headmaster before me. I have a younger brother, Gage, who is three years younger then I am. My mom took off when I was 6 but dad, grandma and grandpa raised me. I grew up around all the troubled teens that were housed in B.A.D. I learned how to steal and lie from them and I don’t think that my dad was too happy about it because he pulled me out and away from the school when I was 13 but it was too late.
When I was 13 I was enrolled in a regular public high school, and I guess I did pretty well. I didn’t make as many friends as dad would have wanted. My grades were good all A’s and B’s I won a scholarship to OSU and then got my degree. I did all my student teaching at B.A.D. I actually could have started teaching a year earlier but I decided to take a year off and moved to California for about five years.
In California I did nothing but work my butt off, I worked two jobs to afford a small apartment and to feed myself. I really don’t know why I did it but I think I turned out better for it. When I came back from my little experiment Grandpa James gave me the Headmaster job and I took it happily. I’ve been Headmaster for just about a year now.
