“Well, tell me a little about yourself. What’s your name?”

Hello! My name? Ooh! How about you guess? I’m sure you’ve been told already, so it shouldn’t be too hard. You won’t guess? Well, that’s no fun. If you insist. My name is Rina Emi Nakamura. As you can probably tell, my parents decided to name my siblings and I traditional Japanese names. Not really sure why, mom can’t even speak Japanese and dad doesn’t remember much from when he was little. Guess it was just to keep the grandparents happy. Well, at least I didn’t spend all of grade school being called Rina N. or something.

Nicknames? My brother calls me Ri-chan. Ri is obviously short for Rina and chan is a Japanese honorative. I think it’s usually used for kids but it’s also a term of affection. I don’t know, it just sounds cute.

“Next question, how’s school?”

Ew. I don’t like school. It’s soooo boring. I spend most of my class time drawing. I’m pretty good, but I’m not showing you any of my work. Last time an adult came across it they thought I was sexually deprived. Seriously? I just drew a little teensy bit of yuri. But that’s what you get for drawing lesbian relationships in catholic school. Oh, don’t give me that look. It wasn’t even graphic. They were just kissing.

But…let’s just get back on topic, k? I’ve gone to private schools all my life because my parents thought it looked better on a transcript. I hate how strict it is in those places. And the fact that they make you pray. I happen to be an atheist. I did like how I looked in the uniform though. I look quite dashing in maroon plaid.

As for grades, they sucked. I was a C student.

“What did you do when you weren’t in school?”

I love drawing, and I like to think that I’m quite good at it. I mostly stick to cute stuff, but every once in a while I’ll do a bit of realistic. Otherwise I love doing drama related hings..

“Tell me about your friends and family. How are your relationships with them?”

I come from a HUGE family. I’ve got 5 siblings, if I remember correctly. Hang on… yeah, it’s mom and dad (Erika and Kyo), then there’s my older brother Ichirou. Age 19 and plays in a rock band. He’s the singer. He’s currently attending music school to go into musical theatre. He’s pretty cool. Ichi is the one that got me into the whole Vegetarian thing.

After him comes Hikari. She’s 17 and really out there. You know, dyed purple fluffy hair and piercings. Good dancer though. I think that’s what she’s going to college for.

Then there’s me and Kaoru. Not a lot to say about us but we get along really well. Actually, my whole family gets on pretty well.

After us is Airi, another dancer. She’s a manipulative little thing and still only 14. She’ll be a nightmare when she gets older. I wish the boys the best of luck with that one.

The youngest is Sora. He’s 12 and lives in his own little world of aliens, rock bands and super heroes.

Mom is a work-at-home sculptor and dad is an author. Both are really into artsy stuff and are accepting of most everything.

I had quite a few friends back home. Lots of people from my art classes and a few people that helped out with the protests. My best friend was Dawn Underhill. We did everything together, including a few things that were maybe a little abnormal. Or at least I felt really weird afterwards.

“Well we know about your friends and family, but what do you think about yourself? Describe yourself to me.”

I like me. Most people seem to find me obnoxious though. They just don’t know how to lighten up. It’s not my fault I don’t like to be serious all the time. I enjoy smiling thank you very much.

Seriously though, I’ve always been rather optimistic. It’s just how I am. If something happens, I’m bound and determined to find something good in it. No need to worry.

Do I have to talk about me? I mean, I think I’m pretty normal.

“Have you had any trouble with the law?”

Heh, yeah. Burning things is frowned upon. Especially when the people that own what you’re burning are rich with lawyers. Or when you get caught. A few protests I was in were broken up by the police too..

“Why did you do it?”

I only do this because animals should have rights. It’s not my fault the protests get a little rowdy. Why can’t people understand that? Sometimes you need to disturb the peace a little.

The fires were just another way to get corporate attention. If you want to make fur coats in my town, then expect me to burn the factories down. It’s perfectly reasonable.

“What is the worst thing you’ve done?”

I’ve hurt a few people with what I’ve done. Like the one time the factory caught fire and then lit up the diner next to it. The people there didn’t deserve the trouble.

I also hate knowing what I’ve put my parents through. I hate that I’ve made mom feel like a bad parent when she’s not. She doesn’t understand that this has nothing to do with her. I’m sorry she feels the need to go to therapy.

I also almost lost my dad his job. Mine and Kaoru’s behavior were a bit of a scandal for his company.

"What the thing you're most proud of?"

I’m proud that I’ve found a purpose for my life. I like to think that I’ve done something good. Helping animals is good, isn’t it? I only wanted them to be our equals..

"Got any vices?"

Nah, alcohol gives me a headache and I don’t want to smoke anything. I like fire though. It’s sooooo pretty..

“If you could change one thing about your life what would it be?”

I would’ve found a way to protest without causing as much trouble. It would’ve saved my family a lot of trouble. I hope they’ll forgive me….

“What act got you sent here and who recommended it?”

The factory I burned down. Not only was it a repeat offense. Is that what it’s called? I think so. Sorry, but it was a repeat offense and caught another building on fire. People got hurt in the fire. No one died though. That’s something at least. But there were some nasty injuries.

The judge felt really bad for me and sent me here. I think she thought I’d never make it in a prison or wherever it is they send kids.

“Do you deserve to be here?”

I wish I could say I didn’t but I probably do. I’ve been a lot of trouble, and it would probably be a good idea to keep me away from that for a while. It’s better than where I could be sent though. And I deserve it more than Kaoru does. He shouldn’t have gotten in trouble.

"Tell me about your life before B.A.D. contacted you."

Mom and dad had me and Kaoru 15 years ago in July. I was born first, by the way. We’re from a little town in California. My parents have lived there since right after they were married. Not the same house though. I’ve seen their old house and it would be way too small for 8 people. So instead we lived-live-lived, well I lived there, they still live there, in a kinda big house on the water. I shared a room with Airi once she was born, but before that I think I had my own room. I don’t really know, I was only 2.

Anyway, I went to school and got really bad grades. Luckily, mom let me take art lessons after school; otherwise I would’ve gone insane. I got to do drama club too. I love drama. Are there plays here? That would be awesome. Sorry, I’m rambling again, aren’t I? Well, I had to work really hard at school so I’d be allowed to stay in my fun things. Kaoru tutored me a lot. It didn’t really help though, so I ended up on ADD meds. They tasted really bad. I’m still supposed to take them.

I was pretty popular at school. People really liked to have me around, but around middle school they started thinking I was crazy. I think it was the fact I like fire too much. I still had a lot of friends though. And boys would always want to talk to me. They said I was pretty and stuff. I don’t really like boys though.
