SECTION 1
Students at Blackwood Academy are free to continue their education while getting the help they need to be reintroduced to society. With a large campus and much to do on it students are encouraged to interact with other students and to participate in many other the Academy's various sports and activities. Please see the subsections for more information on student life.
SUBSECTION 1.1
Students are expected to maintain passing grades during their stay at Blackwood Academy. Fights will not be tolerated. Each student is to respect both the privacy of the other students, the staff and the faculty. Curfew, meal times and the dress code are clearly stated during orientation, and in the handbook.
Times to be Aware of: Curfew is 8:30 Sunday-Thursday. 9:00 Friday and Saturday Breakfast is from 6am-8:30am Lunch 12:00-1:30pm Dinner 6:00pm-7:30pm
SUBSECTION 1.2
The student uniform dress code is in effect from 6am to 7 pm Monday through Friday, including holidays and breaks. After 7pm and before 6am, students may don their “street clothing” provided they are modest and meet the dress code.
Young Ladies Uniform
Young ladies are expected to wear to wear white or gray button down shirts. The shirts are to have full or quarter sleeves and a non-flared collar. Trousers are to be straight legged reaching the top of the shoe, these are to be either black or gray in color. An alternative to the trouser is a straight, gray or black skirt. The length of the skirt must be at least to the knee. Skirts are not to have pleating, ruffles or lace. Shoes are to be black flats, with little to no heel. A dark colored blazer jacket is to be worn over the uniform shirt, everyday, no exceptions.
Out of Uniform Dress Code
For young women the dress code when out of uniform is very similar to that of the young men. Tops are to cover the entire shoulder, no spaghetti straps, sleeveless or cut sleeves. Necklines are to be modest, no cleavage should be visible. V-neck or other revealing shirts are only allowed if a dark colored undershirt is worn underneath the over-shirt. The midriff should be fully covered and should stay covered in the event that a student raises their arms above their head. Shirts and blouses are to have no writing or picture on them that relates to drugs, alcohol, or sexual references.
Pants are no have no wholes, writing, pictures or designs on them. Jeans must be blue or black, no neon colors. Pants must reach the top of the shoe in length and cover the entire lower half of the student. “Sagging” is not allowed. Shorts and skirts must be solid colors and the be longer then the students middle finger when examined with hands at sides. Skirts are allowed pleating and ruffles as long as they meet the color and length requirements.
Dresses are required to cover both shoulders and at least part of the arm. Necklines are to meet the same requirements as shirts. The minimum length is two inches above the knee. Solid black or dark blue tights are required to be worn under all dresses.
Shoes are to be closed toed with a maximum heel height of 1.5 inches. Flip flops and sandals are not to be worn by students on school grounds.
Young Gentleman’s Uniform
Young gentlemen are expected to wear white to gray button down, collared shirts. A black necktie or bow tie is required as well as a dark colored jacket. Trousers are to be straight legged black or gray reaching the shoes when standing. Black dress shoes are to be worn everyday with the uniform. Black or brown belts are optional with the uniform.
